Sweatpants, and Leggings, and Shorts, Oh My!

There are many things to be said about college fashion. From what I have picked up on over the past weeks are that there are 3 types of people: those who put some effort into their outfits, those who think sweatpants are acceptable to be worn every day, and those who I have no idea what they are thinking.

The students who put some effort into their clothing choices seem to make up around 45% of the student body. I have an appreciation for these students because not only am I one of them, but they also notice that it takes the same amount of time to put on a pair of jeans as it does to put on sweatpants.  Now, I am not saying that we look like we stepped out of Vogue every single day, but even on the days we don’t put a lot of effort in our outfits, we still are not wearing leggings (THEY ARE NOT PANTS), sweatpants, or athletic shorts. And from what I have observed, a lot of the students (girls especially), who wear athletic shorts to class, are not planning to go do any sort of exercise later on. I will get to those people later on, but now I want to focus back onto those who would never just roll out of bed and go to class. Fashion can be perceived in many different ways, and you either have it or you don’t. Whether you are on the edgy side or the classic side, I have respect for you are because you truly have fashion. I love being able to analyze the fashionable outfits because to me it is free entertainment. So, too all of you who dress with a slight bit of fashion in mind, thank you for giving me something to do when I am bored.

Now on to those who look like they did roll out of bed and walk to class, I have one question for you, why? Jeans are so simple to put on in the morning, and guess what, you put them on the same way you put on sweatpants. As I said earlier leggings are not pants, and from personal experience, I am pretty sure jeans take a shorter amount of time to put on than your beloved leggings. Athletic shorts are not acceptable either. I love running shorts, but I only wear them for what they are made for, which happens to be running. The same goes for athletic shorts; they are made to wear when you are doing something athletic. So, if jeans are just as easy to put on and they are made to wear everyday, why are you choosing sweats, leggings, and athletic shorts? My main theory is that you are just lazy, which is not a good excuse for sweatpants. This theory does not apply to many of the girls because if your hair is curled and your makeup is done to perfection, clearly you are not lazy, which does not explain why you are wearing sweatpants. I could go on and on about these kinds of people, but my post would then become a novel.

I don’t really know what to say about the third type of people. I didn’t know that cat ears and a tail were meant to be worn every day, or that wings were considered the newest accessory. Either I missed these new trends in my fashion magazines or these people just don’t know what they are doing. And after flipping through my magazines again, I am going to have to go with the latter. Sure their outfits are entertaining, but they are only appropriate on Halloween and even then I don’t think they are fitting. Some might say that they are just expressing themselves, but I think even they know that they are just plain weird. Like I said at the beginning, there are many things to be said about college fashion, and this is only the beginning.

Fashionately,
Sarah
